A Food Lover’s Guide to the Weekly Market

Every Thursday, the square in town fills with colourful stalls, the smell of fresh bread and the sound of friendly bargaining. For food lovers, it’s the best morning of the week.

Go early

The best produce goes fast. Arrive around 9:00, when it’s still cool and the stallholders have time to chat and let you taste.

What to buy

  • Tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers that actually taste of summer
  • Village cheese, aged and fresh
  • Olives — green, black, cracked and marinated
  • Thyme honey and homemade jams
  • Seasonal fruit: cherries in June, figs in August, pomegranates in October

The kitchen at Villa Coral Bay is ready for your market haul.

Back at the villa: a simple market lunch

Slice everything, drizzle with olive oil, add a little salt and a handful of herbs. Serve with warm bread on the terrace. That’s it — the ingredients do all the work.

Cash is king

Most stalls only accept cash, so bring small notes. There’s an ATM on the corner of the square.

Would you rather skip the shopping? Send us your list and we’ll have the fridge stocked before you arrive.

The thyme honey from the market was so good we brought three jars home!

Ha! Only three, Chloe? We’ve had guests leave with a whole suitcase full.

  2. Lucas Meyer says:

Thursday market was a highlight. The cheese stall at the far end is the best one.

  3. Nina Petrova says:

Is the market on every week, including in winter?

    1. Ocean Villa Team says:

Yes, Nina — it runs all year round, every Thursday morning. It’s a little smaller in winter but just as lovely.
