Why Autumn Is the Best-Kept Secret of the Coast

Summer gets all the attention, but ask anyone who lives on the coast and they’ll tell you the same thing: autumn is when it really shines.
The sea is at its warmest
After a long summer, the water stays warm well into October — often warmer than it is in June. Morning swims are a pleasure, not a challenge.
The beaches are yours
Once the school holidays end, the most popular beaches become peaceful again. You can find a shady spot at Turquoise Bay without setting an alarm.

Perfect weather for exploring
With daytime temperatures in the mid-twenties, autumn is ideal for hiking the coastal trails, visiting ancient ruins and wandering through hillside villages without the midday heat.
Harvest season
September brings grapes and figs, October brings pomegranates and the start of the olive harvest. The markets are full of colour and the tavernas cook with whatever is freshest that week.
Better value
Our autumn rates are lower than in peak season, and the minimum stay drops from five nights to three — perfect for a long weekend in the sun.
Check the availability calendar for autumn dates and see for yourself.

We came in mid-October last year and swam every single day. Couldn’t agree more!
Are the restaurants in town still open in late October?
Hi Richard, most of them are open until early November. A few beach bars close at the end of October, but the harbour restaurants stay open all year round.
The olive harvest was such a unique experience. Our kids still talk about it.
